The practice is part of the British Association of Immediate Care Doctors, or BASICS (www.basics.org.uk). This is a voluntary organisation that works to promote the provision of the best possible emergency care at both medical and trauma incidents such as road traffic accidents.
We therefore work closely with the Cumbria Ambulance Service (www.cas.nhs.uk) who will call us to incidents in and around our area, to provide a combined doctor and paramedic response to emergencies. Although out-of-hours care is now provided by the NHS 111 Service we try to respond to emergency calls both during and outside working hours whenever we can. Thanks to the enormous generosity of patients making donations to the Caldbeck Surgery Charitable Fund, we are extremely well equipped to provide this service.
