COVID & FLU VACCINATIONS AUTUMN 2022
Keswick & Solway Primary Care Network
ASPATRIA MEDICAL GROUP, CALDBECK SURGERY, CASTLEHEAD MEDICAL CENTRE, DALSTON MEDICAL GROUP, SILLOTH GROUP MEDICAL PRACTICE, THE CROFT SURGERY KIRKBRIDE, WIGTON GROUP MEDICAL PRACTICE.
From mid-September your GP practices will be inviting eligible patients to have both their flu and covid vaccinations at the same time.
The Joint Committee for Vaccines and Immunisations (JCVI) have advised NHSE that it is safe to have both vaccinations at the same time and that any side effects are minimal. Therefore to ensure that your GP practice has enough staff to do both the normal day to day work load and also deliver the autumn vaccination programme they will be co administering these and this will be done at their own practice sites not wigton hospital.
GP practices will only be vaccinating the following cohorts
All patients aged 5 years and above who are clinically extremely vulnerable as defined in the green book chapter 14A, Including pregnant women.
All patients and staff in Care/ Residential homes.
All health and social care staff including paid and unpaid carers
All patients aged 5 years and above who are household contacts of patients who are immunosuppressed as defined in the green book chapter 14A.
All patients aged 65 years and above
Please note that healthy over 50 year olds will not be eligible for vaccination until 15th Oct, if you fall into this cohort please check your GP practices website to see if they are offering to vaccinate you.
If you have elderly relatives who are eligible please note that the GP practices will be vaccinating in elderly Care homes and also those patients who are housebound. However if you can assist with getting your elderly housebound relative to the practice the GP practices would be very grateful, by doing this it helps reduce the number of visits allowing more time to see patients for ongoing issues in the practice.
Please check your practices website for details on when they will be holding their clinics and also for Q&A on when you can have your vaccine for example if you have recently had covid.
The practices will be holding separate clinics for children aged 5 – 17 years as they will be required to have the nasal flu vaccine
If you choose not to have both vaccines at the same time you will be given your flu vaccination but you will then have to arrange your own covid booster appointment which may be at a pharmacy in another town.
Please keep checking your GP Practices websites for updates regarding the autumn vaccination programme and if at all possible please avoid contacting them by telephone the lines need to be kept free for medical emergencies.
Many thanks

We will be holding joint flu & Covid 19 vaccination clinics from mid September until end of October and you will be invited by a letter or text in the next few weeks
The timing of a covid booster is dependant on the vaccine supply from NHS England. If we have no supplies for our joint clinics we will go ahead with flu only and contact you separately about a covid booster.
The invite will be for an AM or PM clinic and we ask that you attend at this time and date if at all possible. We are not able to offer vaccinations on a drop in basis.
We will be offering a flu & covid19 vaccinations to all over 50s and those who have a medical condition that puts them at risk.
