Covid Vaccines @ Wigton Hospital

Keswick & Solway Primary Care Network

ASPATRIA MEDICAL GROUP, CALDBECK SURGERY, CASTLEHEAD MEDICAL CENTRE, DALSTON MEDICAL GROUP, SILLOTH GROUP MEDICAL PRACTICE, THE CROFT SURGERY KIRKBRIDE, WIGTON GROUP MEDICAL PRACTICE.

Following the Government announcement at the weekend regarding boosters please can we ask that you read the following information carefully;

This announcement does not mean that patients can have the booster any sooner than the 6 months that the JCVI recommend, it just allows patients to book their appointment in advance, therefore Patients who had their second covid vaccine 5 months ago can now book their booster appointment via 119.

Please note that Wigton Hospital covid appointments are not available through 119 therefore if you wish to have your booster at Wigton Hospital please wait until your GP practice send you an invite via text or contacts you on the telephone.

Your GP practices only send out invites 1-2 weeks before your booster is due, therefore please check the date of your second dose and ensure that when you book your appointment for your booster that this is 6 months or more, if you book too soon and turn up for your jab you will be refused the booster and asked to rebook the appointment.

Patients who are immunosuppressed are to receive three primary doses, the second 8 weeks after the first and the 3rd 8 weeks later.

All boosters are the Pfizer vaccine which all patients will have to be observed by our health care professionals for 15 minutes in our waiting room. Please respect this professionals as they are volunteers and give their free time after a weeks work.

If you have any questions regarding the booster programme please call 119 or refer to the Government or NHSE websites.

Please note that your booster will not show up on your NHS covid passport as it is not currently a requirement to travel, only double vaccinated, the booster vaccination will show on your medical records and also on your NHS app under immunisations.

Patients requiring medical exemptions to not have the covid vaccine need to contact 119, not your GP, they will assess your medical situation and any decision made by them cannot be appealed.

Flu vaccinations will be done at your GP practice as they have been in previous years, delivery dates for the flu vaccinations have been very sporadic this year due to the increased demand, please bear with us and further clinics for Flus will be announced on the practices Facebook pages and websites.

Please note that GP practices are working really hard to deal with telephone queries from patients, please be kind they are under a lot of pressure having to deal with flu appointments, covid vaccination queries, patients chasing up hospital appointments/referrals, staff sickness, homes visits to patients to delivery flu and covid vaccinations, not to mention the important calls from patients who do require urgent medical attention. They are trying to contact patients to book their booster appointments when staffing levels and daily pressures allow this work to happen.

We would recommend that if your call is not urgent but you do need to speak to someone at the practice to contact them in the afternoon. Please note that the reception team at Wigton Hospital cannot deal with your queries regarding covid vaccinations, any requests to cancel or rebook appointments must be done through your GP practice or if you booked appointments through the national booking service contact 119.

Many thanks
