I have been Secretary at the surgery since 2001, but originally joined the practice in 1996 previously having worked here as a cleaner and as a receptionist/dispenser.
The secretarial post is a wide and varied one providing administrative support to all the staff which involves typing referral letters, scanning, liaising with the doctors, nurses and practice manager as well as dealing with insurance companies, solicitors, DVLA, DLA, Blue Badge reports etc.
Among my other duties I order most things for the surgery from cleaning items to medical equipment and administration supplies. I also organise repairs of equipment and provide IT support. I assist with clinical audit, which has increased since the start of the GP Contract in April 2004.
I liaise with outside agencies including EMIS, PCT, NHS Trusts, other healthcare providers etc, as well as helping patients chase referrals and arrange appointments.
As with all the staff that work at the Surgery, I am very aware about the need for patient and colleague confidentiality.
