If you have problems with transport the surgery staff are able to help.

Please read below for more information on the various transport means available in your area.

Hospital Transport Request

The surgery staff are able to help and advise you on various transport means for trips to health related appointments. We can book hospital transport, provided free of charge by the health authority for initial appointments. Appointments must be between the hours of 9.30am and 10.30am, then 1.30pm to 2.30pm.

If you would like to book hospital transport either:

Ring the surgery on 016974 78254 with the following information:

• Name
• Address
• Postcode
• Contact telephone number
• NHS number (if known)
• Appointment date
• Appointment time
• Location of appointment
• Name of consultant and whether for a clinic or admission
• Any extra details such as:
  • Type of vehicle - is a car OK, or is an ambulance required
  • Is walking OK, or do you use/need a wheelchair and tail-lift
  • If you have someone escorting you, or if you need asistance

Transport to the Surgery

The surgery are also able to advise with voluntary services in the area.

If you live in Boltons, Caldbeck, Castle Sowerby, Ireby/Uldale, Mungrisdale, Sebergham/Welton or Westward/Rosley parishes the Northern Fells Minibus is available for people who do not have their own transport in these parishes. The minibus has a lift for wheelchair or walking access.

If you live in the Dalston, Great Orton, Raughton Head, Gaitsgill, Wreay and Durdar area (the rural area of Carlisle District) you can use the Cumbria County Council Rural Wheels Service.

Telephone Duncan Fletcher on 01228 606721 to organise your smart card which costs £5. Then you just ring in advance to book your journey, door to door.

Cumbria County Council Voluntary Car Service

There is also a Voluntary Car Service for people without their own transport living in a number of villages and in Wigton. There is a charge per mile made, to cover petrol costs. Telephone the co-ordinator for your area:
