Get Help if I’m Pregnant

If you think you might be pregnant then you should make an appointment with a doctor or nurse as soon as possible. The doctor/nurse will confirm you are pregnant by taking a blood test or urine sample.

Wanted Pregnancy

The doctor/nurse will talk to you about good pregnancy care, such as taking folic acid and stopping smoking, and a booking appointment with the midwife will be arranged. Please Click Here for further information on antenatal care.

Unwanted Pregnancy

If you think you might be pregnant and you don’t want to keep the pregnancy then you have two options:

  • To have a termination of pregnancy.
  • To keep the pregnancy and put the baby up for adoption.

If you have chosen to have a termination of pregnancy then you should see your doctor as soon as possible, as the earlier you have a termination the safer and easier it is to perform. Your doctor will then refer you urgently to the Family Planning Clinic at Carlisle Infirmary. You should expect to be seen within 3 weeks. This is a free confidential service.
